KERC's 2025 reform made approval simpler

Effective 1 July 2025, the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission removed the Power Purchase Agreement requirement for low-tension domestic consumers up to 150kW, moving the whole application to a mandatory online portal — a meaningful reduction in paperwork for a typical residential system.

The same reform introduced Virtual Net Metering and Group Net Metering, more relevant to housing societies and multi-connection commercial consumers than a single home installation.

Who handles your application

BESCOM covers Bengaluru urban and rural plus several nearby districts; Karnataka’s other regional DISCOMs cover the rest of the state, all under the same KERC-set rules. The central PM Surya Ghar subsidy — up to ₹78,000 — applies exactly the same way here as everywhere else in India.

No — the ₹30,000/₹60,000/₹78,000 slabs are set by the central PM Surya Ghar scheme and are the same everywhere in India.

Almost never — it’s designed for groups of consumers sharing one solar plant. A typical single-home rooftop system uses standard net metering.
