Types of Solar Panels

Not all solar panels are built the same. Here’s an honest breakdown of every panel technology we install, so you know exactly what’s going on your roof.

These cards aren’t all the same kind of choice, either — some describe the silicon wafer, some the cell technology built on top of it, and one describes how the module itself is assembled. The label on each card tells you which.

20–22%Wafer type

Monocrystalline

The premium standard

Cut from a single continuous silicon crystal, giving cells their signature uniform black or deep-blue finish and rounded corners — the most space-efficient panel on the market.

  • Highest efficiency per sq. ft.
  • Best in high heat & low light
  • 25–30 year warranties common
Best for: Homes with limited roof space wanting maximum output
15–17%Wafer type

Polycrystalline

The budget classic

Made by melting multiple silicon fragments together, giving panels their distinctive blue, speckled appearance. A proven, lower-cost technology that’s gradually being phased out as mono prices fall.

  • Lower cost per panel
  • Simple, mature manufacturing
  • 20–25 year typical lifespan
Best for: Large flat roofs or ground-mounts where space isn’t a constraint

PERC

Today’s industry standard

Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell technology adds a reflective rear layer that bounces unused light back into the cell for a second absorption pass — a meaningful efficiency boost over standard cells.

  • Built on proven mono cells
  • Better low-light performance
  • Default in most panels sold today
Best for: Nearly every standard rooftop installation today

Bifacial

Power from both sides

Frameless, dual-glass panels that generate power from direct sunlight on the front and reflected ground light on the rear — extra energy without extra roof space.

  • Captures reflected/ambient light
  • Durable glass-glass build
  • 30+ year lifespan
Best for: Ground mounts, carports & elevated terrace installations

Thin-Film

Light & flexible

A photovoltaic layer deposited directly onto glass, metal or plastic instead of rigid silicon wafers — lightweight, low-profile, and can even be curved.

  • Performs well in heat & diffuse light
  • Lightweight, low profile
  • Fast, low-cost manufacturing
Best for: Large utility sites or lightweight, curved industrial roofing

N-Type TOPCon / HJT

The next generation

The latest N-type cell architectures — TOPCon and Heterojunction (HJT) — beat older P-type PERC cells on efficiency, degradation and heat tolerance.

  • Lowest degradation over time
  • Best temperature coefficient
  • Ideal for hot Indian summers
Best for: Maximum lifetime output, especially in high-heat regions like Telangana & AP
